What we see in Chicago homes

Chicago's bungalow belt is its own HVAC discipline. A classic 1920s brick bungalow has a finished or semi-finished attic, a low-headroom basement, gravity-converted ductwork with oversized trunks and undersized branches, and almost no wall insulation. The attic bedroom is always the hottest room in the house in July and the coldest in January, and no amount of new equipment fixes it without addressing the duct and the envelope.

Where we look first here

Bungalow-belt gravity conversions, attic bedrooms, and homes with radiator heat and no ducts at all.

Whatever the house, the approach is the same: measure first, explain what the readings mean, price the options, and let you choose. Chicago sits inside our regular Cook County coverage, so it’s a normal service call rather than a special trip.

Chicagoland weather is the whole design brief

Systems here have to hold temperature through sub-zero stretches in January and pull humidity out of the air through a humid July. That’s a wider operating range than most equipment is marketed against, and it’s why a system that was fine in the shoulder seasons often falls apart at both extremes. Sizing, duct capacity and humidity control matter more in this market than raw efficiency ratings do.
