Boiler Repair & Service in Chicagoland
Plenty of Chicago's pre-war housing stock still runs hot water or steam heat. Those systems need a different skill set than forced air.
What boiler services actually involves
Boiler work covers circulator pumps, expansion tanks, low-water cutoffs, zone valves, aquastats, and the bleeding and balancing that keeps radiators heating evenly across floors. Steam systems add their own vocabulary — main vents, radiator vents, pitch. If your home has radiators or baseboard rather than vents, this is the page you want.
Signs you need boiler services
- Radiators cold at one end of the house and scalding at the other
- Banging or knocking pipes when the system fires
- Pressure gauge reading outside the normal range
- The boiler runs constantly without reaching temperature
- Visible corrosion or leaking around the boiler base
Repair or replace?
We price both and show you where the break-even falls. The general test we apply: if the repair costs more than about a third of a replacement and the equipment is past its expected midlife, the replacement is usually the better spend. Under that, fix it and keep the money. Safety faults — a cracked heat exchanger, a compromised flue — override the arithmetic entirely.
You’ll get the numbers for both paths in writing so it’s a decision rather than a recommendation you have to take on faith.

Boiler Services FAQs
Call us with your system type and we'll confirm compatibility before booking — boiler service varies enough by system that it's worth a quick conversation first.
Usually trapped air in a hot water system, or a failed vent in a steam system. Both are typically inexpensive fixes once diagnosed.
