What air purification actually involves
Whole-home purification installs into the ductwork rather than sitting in a corner, so it works on the entire volume of air the blower moves. Options range from high-MERV media cabinets to UV and photocatalytic units. The right one depends on what you're actually trying to remove — allergens and dust are a filtration problem, odours and biological growth are a different one — which is why we start with an assessment instead of a product.

Partly, and it's the right first step. But a filter dense enough to catch fine particles can restrict airflow badly on a system that wasn't designed for it — which is how well-intentioned filter upgrades cause frozen coils and cracked heat exchangers. We check static pressure before recommending a higher MERV rating.
They're effective against biological growth on the coil and in the drain pan, which is a real and common problem in humid Chicagoland summers. They do far less for dust and allergens. Match the tool to the problem.
